What Makes the V15 Different

Three features separate the V15 from every other cordless vacuum on the market:

• Laser dust detection. A green laser mounted at a 1.5-degree angle illuminates particles invisible to the naked eye. On hard floors, you can see exactly where dust is hiding—along baseboards, under furniture edges, in grout lines.
• Piezo particle counter. The LCD screen displays a real-time count of particles being picked up, categorized by size. When the count drops to zero on a section of floor, you know it's clean.
• Torque Drive cleaner head. The stiff nylon bristles are 20% stiffer than the V11's, designed specifically for carpet deep cleaning.

Suction Power in Real Use

Dyson rates the V15 at 230 AW (air watts) on Boost mode. For context, most cordless vacuums deliver 40-80 AW. Even in Auto mode, the V15 delivers more than sufficient suction for everyday cleaning.

We tested on:

• Hardwood floors: Picks up fine dust, pet hair, and tracked-in grit completely in one pass on Auto mode
• Medium-pile carpet: Required 2-3 passes to fully extract embedded debris, comparable to a corded upright
• Area rugs: Excellent edge cleaning; the laser revealed debris the rug pattern hid visually
• Pet hair: Tested with a golden retriever in the household. The V15 handled hair on all surfaces without tangling

Battery Life: The Honest Numbers

Dyson claims 60 minutes of runtime. Here's what we measured:

Auto mode is what you'll use 90% of the time. 34 minutes is sufficient for a 1,400 sq ft home in one session, but only barely. For larger homes, you'll either charge mid-clean or switch to Eco mode for finishing passes. The battery charges fully in 4.5 hours.

Weight and Ergonomics

The V15 weighs 6.8 lbs. This is heavier than cheaper Dyson models (the V8 is 5.6 lbs) and substantially heavier than budget alternatives. The weight is noticeable when vacuuming above shoulder height—cleaning ceiling fans and high shelves becomes tiring after a few minutes.

For floor-level cleaning, the trigger grip and balanced design minimize fatigue. The ball-joint connection (similar to Dyson's upright vacuums) allows the head to swivel naturally without wrist strain.

Alternatives at Lower Price Points

Is $620 Worth It?

The Dyson V15 is the best cordless vacuum currently available—full stop. Whether that's worth $620 depends on how often you vacuum and how much you care about the result.

For households with pets, allergies, or light-colored flooring where dust is visible, the V15's performance difference is noticeable on every single use. The laser detection alone changes the cleaning experience: you know when a floor is actually clean rather than just vacuumed.

For occasional cleaners (once a week or less) or smaller homes, the performance gap between the V15 and a $300-400 alternative doesn't justify the price difference.

Our verdict: buy the V15 if vacuuming is something you do seriously. For everyone else, the Shark Stratos or Dyson V11 deliver 80% of the performance at 50-70% of the price.
